An HVAC guy checked my A/C yesterday and said the contactors at my outside condenser unit are badly pitted. He wants $300 to replace the contactors. The condenser is a 16-year-old Trane XB 1000, which has been working just fine otherwise. I know it's probably near the end of its useful life. Is this repair worth investing $300 in, or should I just wait for the unit to die?
He also wants $200 to clean the coils in the air handler inside the house. I wonder if there is a way I could do this myself .
Thanks for your help.
