I have a 13 year old 3 ton Goodman AC split system that is leaking 1/2 to 1 lb. of R-22 Freon a year for the last 2 years. My AC tech (who is a one man show and has been in the business for 25 years) has given me the option of adding "stop leak" to the system. He says he has had some success with it but no guarantees. He said it might buy me 3-4 more years on this system. The alternative is to just keep adding Freon to the system every year until it craps out. He says most likely the evaporator coil is leaking and just replacing it on an old system might be a waste of money. I have read bad things about "stop leak" for AC use. I will replace the whole system in 3-4 years but what course should I take to buy me some time?
