Okay guys, when you get sick or screw up, what do you want? For me, I just want to be left alone. Screw your sympathy. Let me heal without your BS. I know Im sick. Or, I know I screwed up. Leave me alone. I dont want to talk about it. Ill work it out. I need peace. And silence.
Heard someone a few years ago talking to another telling them [woman to woman] that they need to emote more. The teller was a Princeton graduate in the capacity of a university professor now. The recipient was someone doing better in life and in the real world.
So, awhile back I heard something on the radio. They were saying that in a relationship, the most benefit came from supporting and congratulating your partners successes, and not in helping when they were down.
Now that was very interesting. Think about it. Think about it for awhile.
So I figured I try an experiment. When ever my better half came home telling of a success at work I give her great support . . . Wow, thats great dear. Thats totally awesome babe. Cool, you got another atta boy! Theyre give you a bigger project next time, *****en!!
And I ignored anything negative she said.
Damn, I created a monster!
Now she comes home and gives me reports on every little thing that went well. And it goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.
Well, you get the idea.
Ive created a monster.
Ive been trying to reverse the behavior modification by ignoring her, but that has had minimal affect. Dont know what to do at this point. Gawd Im tired of her ramblings of every little thing she did good each day.
Bottom line, that little thingy I heard on the radio was right. People like the support for things they did good more than empathy when things go wrong.
So, if you want to get laid, there's a clue in there somewhere . . .
