Where I live, to celebrate Independence Day, everyone on the street signs a 'petition' to be submitted to the city. Then we get a permit to close the street.
That way we can legally set up tables, chairs and BBQ's in the middle of the street to properly socialize with each other and drink beer all afternoon. After the sun sets, we light up the sky with fireworks. If the cops show up, nobody saw nothin'. Not even the cars that stop on adjacent streets to watch.
This year I think my contribution will be the bean recipe from that cow girl I once knew . . .
