Im working on a york yk centrifugal water cooled machine 500 tons. I have read that 20 to 25 degrees discharge superheat is a good rule of thumb. After fixing a few leaks on the chiller and recharging it the discharge superheat after the machine unloads to about 60% is 10 to 11 degrees with 5 degrees subcooling with an approach of 1.5 degrees. I also notices while the chiller loaded up to 100% that the discharge superheat was down less than 5 degrees. Never seen more than 7 degrees across the cooler. Is this normal?? or possible overcharge?
